The Metro Hockey League (MHL) was created by the Minnesota Hockey metro area District Directors over 20 years ago to run a Twin Cities, metro-wide league for all high school age young men who do not play varsity or junior varsity hockey.

  • The MHL has developed into a premier place for players to continue improving various skills, including hockey skills, leadership skills, and sportsmanship skills, in an enjoyable environment.

  • Each season the MHL fields 58-65 teams from Minnesota Hockey District’s 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 & 10.

  • These teams originate in various existing Associations and enroll in the MHL.

  • The MHL has three divisions; Junior Gold “A”, Junior Gold “B”, and Junior Gold “16U”.

  • Each District provides two volunteers to form a committee (Often called the MHL Board) to administer the MHL.

  • Over the years, the MHL has strived to create a place for all high school age players to play hockey with a strong focus on sportsmanship.

  • The MHL has implemented several rules, including the Three Penalty Rule, the Disqualification Rule, and the Handshake before the Game Rule (This season it will be the Fist Knock with Glove on Rule due to H1N1) with the intent to continually improve sportsmanship.
